Calvary Community Church began as a home fellowship in October of 2007. Four believers met that first night: a single guy, a mom of three girls, and a couple with four children. All agreed that growing in Christ and having real relationships with one another according to God’s Word and Spirit was most important. All desired to seek God’s will for their lives. How can people bear one another's burdens and pray for each one’s needs without knowing and walking in life together?
November that same year it became clear that they would begin praying about becoming a church plant in the neighborhood. The fellowship continued to reach out to friends and neighbors and continued to grow. They were reminded God adds to His church daily and it was exciting to see who He brought. They gathered together every Saturday evening to study through the book of Matthew, enjoyed learning more about God's Word and each other, and often played board games, too. They gathered for holidays, and shared Thanksgiving and Easter together as well.
Prayer continued for several needs: a youth worker, a worship leader, and a possible place to meet should they outgrow the living room. In May of 2008, God provided a worship leader along with his family. The fellowship was so thankful!
The group of friends enjoyed time together over the summer: camping, fishing, cookouts and continued consistent Bible study. They were growing in learning to encourage and minister to one another and in their personal relationships with Jesus, and becoming a true community of believers. In October they met for hikes in the mountains above Colorado Springs enjoying the fall weather and the changing colors. They also met together, sharing meals, to outline the Statement of Faith, goals, and the heart of church.
In the fall, God opened the doors of a local church. Stratmoor Hills United Methodist Church welcomed them to begin meeting in their building in November. The timing, place and people involved were truly God's instrumentation. God was teaching: no striving or straining; simply pray and trust that God would provide for the needs of the fellowship in His perfect time. “Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.” Zech. 4:6
We never want to do anything more or less than what our Lord wills! Calvary Community desires to become a community of believers committed to God and His Word by living like Jesus through His Spirit! In anticipation we take this venture of faith! To God be the Glory in everything! Click for less
